Today was a mixed bag of things, I think I must have experience every emotion under the sun at being with our son. I didn’t sleep a great deal, the ward I was on was way too bright and I was too enamoured by the little sleepy chap next to me to sleep for any length of time. I literally can’t stop looking at him! We’re both instantly in love with him ❤
We got up and did our first nappy change (that was fun as it was a poopy one!) and had our first feed, took first photographs and had first cuddles and kisses. I asked my midwife if I’d be able to go home today and she said as he had to be monitored (only temps and heart rate, nothing serious!) for 24 hours from birth it might not be until tomorrow. The look of dismay must have shown on my face as she said she’d go and check as their last rounds are at 20:30 and seeing as he was born at 20:26 to me he’s then been monitored for 24 hours, if everything is well, we wanted to go home!
Pierre came to visit and drop some things off as soon a visiting hours started and left at about lunch time to get some things ready for me coming home. Whilst he was there a new midwife started and she said I should theoretically be able to go home in the evening (woohoo!). My Mum and Nana visited at lunch and he was as good as gold with them, opened his eyes and everything! Once they had left the midwife said I was good to go in the evening after the last check at about 8pm, so we then spent more time getting time to know each other before Pierre came to hang out with us before going home!
The way home was the coolest but most surreal journey ever, we were taking our little person home. We were pointing out all the sights (ha!) on the way home, not that he was listening to us, and when we got in, we said “and this is the first time you’ve been in your new home” only really it’s not as he’s been here for the past 9 months just not been able to physically see it!
